- The event strengthens the bond between the British community and the municipality with a festive day of music, culture, and family activities
Calvià hosts, on Saturday 26th April, the second edition of Saint George's Day, a celebration that was born with the aim of highlighting the significant English presence in the municipality and fostering coexistence through culture, music, and shared leisure activities.
Following last year's excellent reception, the Passeig de la Mar in Palmanova will once again be the venue for this festive day, which includes an extensive programme of activities for all ages in a family-friendly and multicultural atmosphere. Residents and visitors will have the opportunity to participate in the various activities taking place throughout the day, highlighting the British identity and vitality of this community, which has a strong presence in the municipality.
From 10 a.m. until late at night, attendees can enjoy a craft market with a varied range of products, two face-painting workshops, several parades themed on the legend of Saint George and the Dragon, and a selection of live musical performances.
The musical programme includes performances by Liam and Albie, Wanderlust, Back to Black (a tribute to Amy Winehouse), a tribute to the Beatles, and a grand finale with a tribute to Freddy Mercury.
Calvià Town Hall invites neighbours, residents of other municipalities, and visitors to participate in this celebration, which seeks to strengthen the ties between the municipality's different communities in a space for meeting, entertainment, and fun.
Mayor Juan Antonio Amengual emphasises the multicultural nature of the celebration. Saint George's festivity reflects the spirit of coexistence and respect that characterises Calvià, and reinforces the commitment of all Calvià residents to diversity and integration. Celebrations like this one, along with others of a similar nature like Saint Patrick's Day or the Fallas de El Toro, make Calvià a more open municipality, enriched by the diverse cultures that inhabit it.
In this sense, the next celebrations to take place in Calvià will be on 10th May, when Calvià will celebrate Europe Day in Palmanova, and on 18th May, with the first Family Pancaritat, which will take place on the public estate of Galatzó.
