Calvià celebrates the traditional Sant Antoni and Sant Sebastià festivities.
More than 100 grills are expected to be deployed in the dozens of 'foguerons' (bonfires) that will take place in different locations throughout the municipality
Calvià is preparing these days to experience one of the most anticipated traditions of the year with the 'foguerons' of Sant Antoni and Sant Sebastià, which will take place in different locations throughout the municipality starting this weekend. A significant participation of residents is expected, who will be able to enjoy the festive atmosphere around dozens of bonfires and more than 100 grills ready for the occasion.
The foguerons, organised in collaboration with neighbourhood associations and local councillors, reinforce the popular nature of the celebrations and contribute to keeping the cultural tradition of Sant Antoni and Sant Sebastià alive in the municipality. The first bonfires will begin on Saturday 11th January, with the one organised by the AAVV Apolo XI, and will extend throughout the following weeks in various areas in the municipality such as Costa d'en Blanes, Palmanova, Magaluf, Peguera, Calvià village, Es Capdellà, Cas Català, Son Ferrer, Portals, Bendinat, Galatzó, El Toro and Son Caliu, amongst others. Some of them will include additional activities such as children's correfocs (fire performances).
The beneïdes (blessing of animals) in Calvià village will take place on Sunday 19th January, starting at 10:30 a.m. On the other hand, in Es Capdellà this year 2025 the traditional procession of Sant Sebastià is recovered. The local councillor, Jaime Bujosa, celebrates that with the arrival of the new parish priest, Carles Fuentes, it has been possible to recover this tradition so rooted in the village and that the neighbours have requested so insistently in recent years. The procession will take place on Monday 20th January, after the Eucharist in the Parish church of Es Capdellà, which is celebrated from 5:30 p.m. The Town Hall invites all citizens to participate in these traditional celebrations, which are also a good opportunity to share good times with neighbours and family. For more information on dates, times and locations, please consult the agenda on the municipal website. Information will also be provided on any changes to dates and times that may occur in the event of bad weather.
