Calvià educates a new generation in responsible pet ownership.

  • Around 250 third and fourth grade Primary education school students participate in sessions on pets

Throughout February, the Town Hall's Animal Welfare Department is carrying out a series of talks on responsible pet ownership in various educational centres of Calvià. The sessions have been held at CEIP Xaloc (Peguera), CEIP Ses Rotes Velles (Santa Ponça) and CEIP Ses Quarterades (Calvià village). The last session will take place on Tuesday 18th February, at CEIP Bendinat.

Around 250 third and fourth grade Primary education school students participate in the sessions. It is the first time that many of them attend a talk on this subject. At the meetings, students learn about the well-being and health of pets, the importance of respecting the municipal ordinance and how to act in different situations, such as, for instance, what to do if they find a lost dog.

The talks are given by the registered veterinarian Elisa Martínez, who, from her work as a veterinary technical assistance in the Animal Welfare service, highlights the importance of instilling responsibility in the care of animals from an early age.

To reinforce the concepts covered, students participate in the drawing contest Cuidem les mascotes, in which they capture in images actions that reflect the responsible care of a pet.
