Calvià invites citizens to strengthen the emotional bond with their dogs at the 2025 Animal Welfare Conference.

  • The aim of this initiative is to raise awareness about dog abandonment, promote responsible adoption and strengthen the emotional bond between animals and owners

Calvià Town Hall invites all citizens to participate in the 2025 Animal Welfare Conference, a special event that seeks to strengthen the emotional bond between animals and owners, which will take place next Saturday, 22nd March. Admission is free and entry will be permitted until capacity is reached.

The conference will begin at 10 a.m. at Sa Societat Theatre in Calvià village, and will include a series of informative talks during the morning. Elisa Martínez, veterinary technical assistant, will present the current situation of dogs in the municipality. She will also explain current regulations and address municipal initiatives related to animal welfare.

Afterwards, SOS Animal Mallorca, collaborating entity of Calvià Town Hall, will briefly share inspiring stories of successful adoptions. Meanwhile, Tomás Camps, a veterinarian with a European certificate in clinical ethology, will give an engaging talk that will debunk myths and misconceptions about canine behaviour, offering practical advice on improving daily life with our dogs and preventing abandonment.

The event will continue in the afternoon, starting at 4 p.m. at the Canera Municipal (Animal Protection Centre), where a moving and entertaining parade of adoptable dogs seeking a second chance will be held. Attendees will be able to interact with these animals, learn their stories, and receive direct advice on the adoption process.

In addition, the Social Dogs team will provide a practical demonstration of effective methods for improving daily life with our dogs, from relaxed walks without pulling to olfactory stimulation games and techniques for accustoming them to wearing a muzzle.

To facilitate attendance, a free shuttle bus service will be offered. The bus will depart at 3:30 p.m. from Sa Societat Theatre to the Canera Municipal, making a stop at Son Bugadelles (municipal urban garden). The return is scheduled from the Canera Municipal at 6 p.m., making the same stops in the reverse direction.

This is a unique opportunity to strengthen the relationship between dogs and owners, discover useful tips on responsible ownership, and contribute to making Calvià a municipality committed to animal welfare.
