- The Calvià Local Security Board meeting brings together the Town Hall, the Government Delegation, the Civil Guard Command and the Balearic Government
- The ties between both bodies are strengthened and the decline in the crime rate in the municipality is confirmed
Meeting on Friday of the Local Security Board of Calvià composed of the Town Hall - the mayor Juan Antonio Amengual and the first deputy mayor for Security Esperanza Catalá-, the Civil Guard Command of the Balearic Islands - Colonel Alejandro Hernández and other commanders -, the Government delegate Alfonso Rodríguez, the head of the Local Police Esther Ribas and the Regional Government represented by the ISPIB - Public Security Institute of the Balearic Islands. During the meeting, different issues were discussed, including the strengthening of the collaboration between the Local Police and the Civil Guard for the 2025 tourist season.
Both bodies have compared data to confirm the decrease in the crime rate in the municipality throughout 2024.
On the part of the Local Police, these data were already supplied in October. Amongst others, the 40% decrease in the number of arrests was recorded between 1st July and 24th September 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year.
Both, Local Police and Civil Guard maintain daily contact and weekly control meetings will remain. In addition, the Benemérita will train Local Police officers in gender violence procedures and protocols. Municipal officers will also receive training in other skills that, for security reasons, have not been disclosed. At the end of the Meeting, Esperanza Catalá assured that "it has been a very productive meeting in which we have compared data and confirmed the decrease in the crime rate. We are already working and joining forces in the face of the tourist season to guarantee the safety of citizens and visitors.
"In addition, we are making progress in the training of our officers in viogen, which makes us very grateful to the Civil Guard and we are to be congratulated," she added. The meeting on Friday resulted in the commitment to maintain two annual meetings of the Local Security Board, the next one being held in the first fortnight of May, already on the threshold of the tourist season. The Town Hall wanted to place special emphasis on its gratitude to the Civil Guard for the reinforcement of elite personnel in the months of greatest tourist influx - the GRS (Reserve and Security Group) - and its presence at mass events such as the Mallorca Live Festival, amongst others.
