Calvià presents El Jardí dels Sentits in the Puig de sa Morisca Archaeological Park.

A degraded area at the entrance to the park has been transformed into an attractive and educational environment

This morning, the presentation of the Jardí dels Sentits was held, a new space within the Puig de sa Morisca Archaeological Park that transforms a degraded area into an attractive and educational environment. The initiative has been promoted and financed by Calvià town Hall's Historical Heritage Department and developed within the framework of the TOPIARIUM project, a training and employment programme on gardening managed by the Institut de Formació i Ocupació de Calvià (IFOC).

The event was attended by the councillor for Historical Heritage, Jaume Bujosa; the councillor responsible for IFOC, Manuel Mas; the councillor for the Santa Ponça area, María Dolores Godoy; the director of the Puig de sa Morisca Archaeological Park, Manuel Calvo; and Ramiro Rodríguez, a teacher of Mixed Programmes at IFOC. During the presentation, attendees were able to learn in detail about the characteristics of the intervention and tour the garden guided by the technicians in charge.

The Jardí dels Sentits covers an area of around 1.500 m² and is designed as a sensorial journey through different thematic areas. It has a public and educational area, with a small stage for educational activities; a children's play area, equipped with interactive games; and specific spaces dedicated to the senses, with aromatic plants, fruit trees, ornamental plants and acoustic elements.

The initiative was developed in a space close to the entrance to the park on a plot of land that had been somewhat degraded by being located between the school, the car park and the park's building. The area, of little environmental value and with little integration into the landscape, has been completely transformed into an attractive and educational environment.

The positive impact of this intervention lies not only in its landscape and educational value, but also in its social impact. The students of the TOPIARIUM project have been able to apply the knowledge acquired in a real environment, working on the conservation of the park and contributing to its improvement. This project is part of the SOIB 30 Formació i Ocupació programme, managed by the Ajuntament de Calvià-IFOC and financed by the SOIB through the Conferència Sectorial d’Ocupació i Assumptes Laborals.
