- A training workshop is being organised for 1st ESO students' families at IES Bendinat and IES Calvià to improve the emotional well-being of young people
Through the What's Up! ¿Cómo vas de salud mental? (What's Up! How's your mental health?) project, part of the Obertament Balears programme, and in collaboration with Calvià Town Hall, a training workshop is being organised for 1st ESO students' families at IES Bendinat and IES Calvià to provide tools to emotionally support young people and improve both, theirs and their family environment's psychological well-being.
The workshop, which consists of four online sessions and for which registration is now open, will take place on 13th, 20th, 27th March and 3rd April, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Through an awareness and unbiased approach, key topics will be addressed, such as promoting mental health within the family, communicating with children about these issues, and preventing risky situations such as self-harm. The sessions will be led by professionals, activists, and family members from 3 Salut Mental (Obertament Balears programme and Girasol association).
The actions' objectives
The Town Hall's Social Services are promoting actions in the field of mental health and emotional well-being for Calvià residents. In 2023, a study was carried out with the opinions of the population and professionals specialised in the field of mental health who work in Calvià, from different municipal services, as well as from IB-Salut, the Institut Mallorquí d'Afers Socials, and specialised entities. Amongst the study's conclusions, the need to develop tools that improve the emotional well-being of the adolescent population and their families was highlighted.
In response to this need, the What's up! Com vas de salut mental? programme has been implemented since January from the entity 3 Salut Mental at IES Calvià and at IES Bendinat amongst first-year secondary education students. This programme includes learning situations in the classroom for students to talk about mental health, emotional work sessions to learn how to practice internal reflection promoting the expression of feelings, and training workshops for families with the aim of improving the emotional well-being of adolescents and their family environment by providing tools to parents.
With this programme, the Social Services Department aims to carry out preventative work so that the adolescent population is prepared in both, resolving personal conflicts and in their relationship with their environment.
