Calvià Town Hall launches a new animal awareness campaign.

  • The Town Hall once again reminds the public of the need to identify pets to facilitate their return home in the event of loss
  • The obligation to keep dogs on a leash and the fight against excrement are also part of the new campaign launched by the Animal Welfare Department

Calvià Town Hall, through the Animal Welfare Department, has launched a new awareness campaign that addresses the main issues related to responsible animal ownership in the municipality. Thus, the council reaffirms its commitment to animal welfare and reminds that these measures are essential to promote a respectful and balanced coexistence with the inhabitants of the municipality. Citizens are invited to actively collaborate and assume their responsibilities to build together a safer, cleaner and friendlier environment for everyone.

Microchip

The microchip is essential to guarantee the identification of pets and facilitate their return home in the event of loss. When implanting it, the veterinarian associates a contact number, allowing the owner to be located quickly. Not having a microchip makes it very difficult to recover lost animals and constitutes an offence under Law 7/2023 on the Protection of Animal Rights and Welfare. Every year, many unidentified pets arrive at the Calvià Animal Protection Centre, which delays reunion with their owners and causes distress for both the animal itself and its family. In addition, the Town Hall reminds that the obligation to have a microchip also applies to cats, regardless of whether or not they leave the house.

Keeping the dog on a leash is mandatory

Owners are reminded that keeping dogs on a leash is a mandatory measure in public spaces, regardless of the size or breed of the animal. This rule aims to guarantee the safety of people, other animals and the dogs themselves, avoiding accidents, losses or confrontations. To offer greater freedom to the animal, the use of extendable or long leashes is recommended, especially in open and low-risk areas, always under supervision. Likewise, in Calvià there are several dog parks designed specifically so that dogs can enjoy freedom in a safe and controlled environment.

Poop is only funny on WhatsApp

This message seeks to raise awareness on the obligation to pick up dog excrement on public roads, an infraction classified as serious according to the municipal ordinance. The non-compliance can lead to fines of up to 600 euros. Keeping the streets clean is a shared responsibility that improves the life quality of everyone.
