- Activities have also been scheduled in Libraries, as well as a Self-Defence Workshop from the Equality Department
8M returns to Calvià with a series of activities that have been organised by various educational centres, as well as the Department of Libraries -dependent on the IMEB- and the Equality Department.
This year, the CEIP Son Caliu has focused on stereotypes. As the culmination of the work carried out in recent weeks, this Friday all the courses took part together in an event that included a story about stereotypes, the reading of a manifesto by 6th grade Primary students, and the performance of a song related to the theme.
At CEIP Cas Saboners, various activities have been scheduled, including workshops in the “Aules Germanes”, in which students have worked with clay, created calligrams with phrases and poems about Women's Day, and talked about important female figures, including an exhibition dedicated to Gloria Fuertes.
The Son Ferrer public school has prepared an installation in the centre's hall with artistic proposals related to Women's Day. In addition, activities with badges and storytellings have been scheduled.
At CEIP Galatzó, infant school students have participated in an equality and co-education workshop, as well as creating a mural. Students in the first cycle have also taken part in an equality and co-education workshop, while those in the second cycle have worked on the story ‘La princesa que fabricava llaüts’.
For its part, Ses Quarterades educational centre has addressed the topic of entrepreneurial women through stories in Catalan, Spanish and English. The 5th and 6th grade students have also performed a microtheatre play.
At CEIP Puig de Sa Morisca, during the entire week of 8M, women have been the main protagonists. In the infant stage, the students have worked on the topic of professions and what they would like to be when they grow up. In primary school, they have identified women they admire and have studied the role of women in today's society. They have also created a "corner of curiosities about women" and a "walk of fame". On Friday, posters were placed with phrases and drawings made by the students throughout the week.
The CEIP Puig de Sa Ginesta has celebrated a Day organised by the coexistence commission, in which inter-cycle workshops related to Women's Day have been held. The students have been going through different stations, with the older ones helping the younger ones on their way.
At the CEIP Ses Rotes Velles in Santa Ponça, the main activity revolves around the figure of the aviator Amelia Earhart, with the reflection ‘Amèlia va volar alt perseguint els seus somnis! Fins on arribaràs tu?’ (Amèlia flew high following her dreams! How far will you go?). In this sense, the students have created a giant plane on the school mural, where each class has put their own paper planes based on the reflection ‘Fins on vols arribar tu?’ (How far do you want to go?)
The CEIP Xaloc has organised a joint activity in which the entire school has participated, including families. The event took place in the Peguera Auditorium and included a storytelling by a young man with Down syndrome, as well as the intervention of a disabled writer, who worked on equality and diversity issues.
At CEIP Bendinat they have worked throughout the week in each classroom and for Women's Day, they have made specific decorations on the classroom doors. On Friday, the students took a tour of the centre to observe the decorations.
Finally, the CEIP Jaume I has promoted a joint event in the school yard, where a ribbon for equality has been made, and each child has written there the name of the most important woman in their life. In addition, eighteen relevant women throughout history have been highlighted, finally reading a manifesto that represents the entire educational community.
From the CEPA, they have named the classrooms with the name of outstanding women in multiple fields and different periods. In addition, a corner has been created in which women's achievements are displayed, and a permanent space has been set up in the library with exceptional books written by women.
Calvià Libraries, dependent on IMEB, will have carried out, amongst other activities, up to four thematic storytellings with a workshop at its facilities in Illetes, Magaluf, Santa Ponça-Galatzó and Son Caliu. A point of interest has also been created in each library, as well as bibliography publications.
And along with these initiatives, the Equality Department has organised a Self-Defence Workshop for women that will take place over the next few weeks.
Calvià Town Hall reiterates its commitment to both, 8M and equality between men and women in order to achieve a freer and fairer society through education.
