The Galatzó sports centre will host the III International Wrestling Tournament ‘Isla de Mallorca - Ajuntament de Calvià’ on Saturday with more than 300 athletes.

 

  • The event will bring together promising young Olympic wrestling athletes from all over Europe
  • The championship will have representation from 13 countries and is consolidating its position as an international benchmark in youth categories

Calvià Town Hall hosted, this morning, the official presentation of the III International Wrestling Tournament ‘Isla de Mallorca - Ajuntament de Calvià’, which will be held on Saturday 5th April at the Galatzó municipal sports centre. The event will feature 325 athletes from 13 countries.

Both, the mayor, Juan Antonio Amengual, and the president of the Balearic Federation of Olympic Wrestling and Associated Events, Mr. Eusebio Capel spoke during the tournament presentation ceremony, held in Calvià Town Hall's plenary hall. 

The competition will run continuously from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and will feature participants from Spain, France, Germany, Poland, Italy, Belgium, Bulgaria, Latvia, Estonia, Denmark, Croatia, the United Kingdom, and Sweden. They will compete in the Under-7, Under-9, Under-11, Under-13, Under-15, and Under-17 categories, in both men's and women's Olympic freestyle and Greco-Roman competitions. Admission to the event is free of charge. 

During the presentation, the mayor stated that "Calvià has long linked its present and future tourism development to sport." He explained that "year after year, the municipality continues to attract sports competitions and tourists, making Calvià a hub for competitions and preseason training camps for international clubs and athletes." Beyond its tourist appeal, Calvià sees sport as a tool for integration, values, and development. In this case, thanks to the work of the local club - Club de Lucha Olímpica Costa de Calvià - and the Balearic Federation of Olympic Wrestling, Calvià hosts a tournament in this discipline" he added. 

The event is mainly sponsored by both, Ajuntament de Calvià and Fundació Calvià 365, and has the collaboration of the Spanish Wrestling Federation, the Balearic Sports Foundation, the General Directorate of Sports and the Higher Council of Sports.

This tournament, which is consolidating its position as an important event in the international grassroots wrestling calendar, reinforces Calvià's role as a benchmark in educational sport and in the promotion of values such as effort, coexistence and improvement.
