The Mallorcan Irene Daudén wins Sa Rua de Calvià poster competition with a “totally organic” work.

  • She won with an original pop-style design reminiscent of cut-out paper dolls

The Mallorcan artist Irene Daudén is the winner of Sa Rua Calvià poster competition organised by the Town Hall. Daudén has won with a pop-style poster in which she shows a woman with elements to choose from amongst different costumes. The visual style is clean and direct, with a pastel colour palette making reference to the old cut-out paper doll games. The jury valued the artistic quality and the original concept that stands out from other proposals.

The artist explained that the idea of Retalla qui vols had been on her mind for years – “a sketch I had in the drawer” – and it is now when she has given it shape. “When I was little I played a lot with paper dolls, I liked it so much that I even designed and made my own dresses. Carnival gives you the freedom to be someone else or whoever you want to be, it seemed to me a very enjoyable idea.

"The competition's terms and conditions envisaged - as in the rest of the public competitions in the municipality - the prohibition of the use of artificial intelligence and it has been endowed with a prize that has increased compared to previous years to 400 euros. Daudén has pointed out that "I work with digital techniques, I use pencil sketches, I draw it by hand ... The result is totally organic.
