The exhibition is combined with a Roman wine tasting in prehistoric drinking glasses replicas
The Puig de sa Morisca Archaeological Park will host a unique activity under the title Tierra y fuego: cerámica prehistórica en vivo (Earth and Fire: prehistoric ceramics live), on Thursday 19th December, that will transport participants to prehistory. It is a demonstration of prehistoric ceramic firing combined with a Roman wine tasting in prehistoric drinking glasses replicas.
With the help of both, Dr. Jaume Garcia-Rosselló, a specialist in prehistoric ceramics, and ceramist Cata Gamundí, the public will be able to learn about the techniques of making ceramics by hand (without a wheel) used thousands of years ago in the Balearic Islands. During the activity, the stages of the artisanal production process will be explained, focusing on post-Talayotic drinking glasses and funerary urns replicas.
The central moment of the activity will be surface cooking, a spectacular and visual technique that allows us to get closer to the practices of our ancestors. This final phase of the process shows how fire, controlled with precision, transforms clay into resistant ceramics, just as it was done in prehistoric times. The day will culminate with a tasting of Roman wine served in ceramic replicas to evoke the rituals in which these pieces played an essential role.
It will be an opportunity to connect with the past in a practical, educational and sensorial way. The activity is free of charge and is aimed at all audiences. To participate, it is necessary to register in advance. Places are limited, so early registration is encouraged.
