- The acquisition will be formalised before 30th March
- It will be the first demolition of an obsolete hotel in Calvià in the 21st century
- Magaluf will gain a new public space as a result of the policy of expanding mature areas
- It has been possible thanks to the European Union's Next Generation Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan
Calvià Town Hall has signed, with the owners of the Hotel Teix in Magaluf, the private purchase-sale agreement for the building that will become effective no later than 30th March this year. The property is being acquired with funds provided by the European Union's Next Generation Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, managed through the Department of Tourism of the Government of the Balearic Islands. The green light has thus been given to what will be the first demolition of an obsolete hotel in Calvià by the Town Hall in the 21st century.
The Hotel Teix is an establishment that has been closed for years and will be demolished to open up the Magaluf area and use the space for the location of public facilities and services. This is part of the municipal policy of improving mature areas through actions such as the reform of the Gabriel Escarrer Juliá promenade on the first line of Magaluf - already underway in its first phase -, the adaptation of the Peguera boulevard and the renaturalisation of the beach, the modernisation of Avenida Rei en Jaume in Santa Ponça or the shock plan for pavements and urban roads, initiatives that add up to 20 million euros and that will be expanded with the second phases of these projects.
In addition to the purchase of the Teix, there is also the purchase of the old Hostal Colón in Peguera, which will also be demolished and whose purchase is possible under the same terms. The purchase of both establishments and their demolition cost around 5.78 million euros. The acquisition and demolition of obsolete hotel establishments to recover public spaces in mature areas revives a line of action that has been paralysed for two decades in the municipality.
