- Calvià Town Hall expresses its optimism while awaiting official occupancy figures
- German tourism accounts for 80 percent of the Peguera area
- At the last ITB it was noted that the market is accommodating the increase in prices in favour of quality
- Peguera is emerging as one of the most attractive commercial areas in the municipality
Before the start of Easter, with the municipality’s beaches open and equipped with services, the tourist season is declared inaugurated. In Peguera, the forecasts point to a good year. German tourists —who account for 80 percent of visitors to the area— have arrived, which has led to the early opening of hotels, restaurants and shops. This confirms the trend predicted by agents in the source market at the last tourism fair in Berlin (ITB) in March. The German market has accepted the rise in hotel room prices—which could reach up to 25 percent over the last five years—in favour of a demand for higher quality. Thus, for example, in the 2023-2024 period, the price per night in Peguera increased by 9 percent. Furthermore, a gradual and sustained increase in tourists planning their vacations in autumn and winter is forecast, lengthening the season, as was already evident from last year's October occupancy data.
Calvià has 51.330 hotel beds (3, 4, and 5 stars), with more than 80 percent being 4 or 5 stars, with a consolidation towards quality. Of these, Peguera – Cala Fornells represents 21 percent, with 10.810 (66,50 percent are 4 and 5 stars).
"The season has already begun, you can see the atmosphere on the streets, there is excitement in the sector and the feeling is very positive, the optimism that was perceived in Berlin is now seen with excellent occupancy rates. We have a 'controlled' optimism that we hope to confirm shortly with the official data," said the mayor of Calvià, Juan Antonio Amengual.
At the same time, Peguera has gained commercial weight in the municipality. On Tuesdays, it has the largest market in Calvià with more than 200 stalls. This is added to the wide range of restaurants, leisure, shops and services that are concentrated along the 1.300 metres of Bulevar Peguera. The Councillor for Commerce and Activities and head of the Peguera area, Benito Ferrer, has stated that the town has become an "attractive reference point for residents and visitors, where you can find practically everything, from the most basic items to anything you might want to buy. You can visit it any day, especially Tuesdays, and it is also open to the rest of Mallorca. I invite everyone to come."
