The framework of action of the Heritage Department results from a constant process of reflection between theoretical approaches and ongoing practice. Firstly, we start from the idea that material culture, particularly Historical and Natural Heritage, serves as an active element in the configuration of society, as it is associated with significant intangible ideas. Among these, we can highlight those related to identity, historical references, and aesthetic and sensory perceptions. Secondly, we view Cultural and Natural Heritage as a dynamic phenomenon in constant construction. Thirdly, we approach Heritage through a transversal strategy, where the concept of landscape seen as a unifying element of the natural, the human and the perceived becomes the focal point.

Services we manage:

  • Catalogue of Cultural Assets of the Municipality of Calvià (in collaboration with the Department of Urbanism and Planning). Over the last few decades, the protection of heritage sites within municipal regulations has been structured through catalogues for the protection of historic and artistic heritage elements. These have been integrated into municipal urban planning through the General Urban Development Plans and have enabled the development of an efficient strategy to protect and enhance the value of properties, which have become points of reference in the municipality for their historical, aesthetic and symbolic significance.

  • Puig de sa Morisca Archaeological Park (Santa Ponça) is a project developed by Calvià Town Council in collaboration with the UIB since 1997. It covers more than  45 hectares and includes one of the most important concentrations of archaeological sites in Mallorca, many of which are publicly owned. The park also features museum facilities and boasts a rich natural, ethnographic and landscape heritage.

  • Comprehensive management of municipal heritage (protection, conservation, research, enhancement and dissemination).
