The Associació d'Amics del Poble Sahrauí de les Illes Balears (AAPSIB) has organized and managed the Vacances Program in Pau since 1987. Since this year and until today, the association has facilitated the arrival of a group of boys and girls from the Sahrawi refugee camps to improve their health. The project allows children from Tindouf (Algeria) to have a host family during two of the summer months, undergoing a medical check-up to diagnose and treat health aspects with the aim of preventing the development of serious ailments. At the same time, it is an opportunity to learn about and share cultures, enriching both the host family and the Sahrawi boys and girls.

Over the years the project has evolved and has been able to welcome a greater number of girls and boys. Currently, Vacances en Pau is possible thanks to public institutions, social entities, families and volunteers, who with their collaboration have made it possible for the AAPSIB to organize the stay of Sahrawi boys and girls who are hosted by families from the Islands.

Since its inception, Calvià City Council has collaborated with the AABSIB in the project, preparing dissemination and awareness through meetings, posters and the media. In addition, it has been in charge of interviews with families to determine suitability. In addition, the city council collaborates with the solidarity work of host families, facilitating the reconciliation of work, family and personal life, offering free summer classrooms and sports campuses to boys and girls who are with families residing in the municipality. . Along the same lines, if the host family needs it, the play center service and the dining room service are also offered free of charge.
