The new facility, which has implied an investment of 4,2 million euros, is provided with an approved rugby pitch and an indoor swimming-pool

Inaugurated the sports complex in Son Caliu.

The Mayor of Calvià, Carlos Delgado, together with the Deputy Mayor for Sports, Manolo Grillé; the Calvian Sport Institute Manager (ICE), Manuel Onieva and the Councillor for Son Caliu, Eloína Mora, inaugurated the new sports complex in Son Caliu, built in a more than 20.200 square metre municipal plot, last Saturday.



The new complex, which has implied an investment of 4,2 million euros, comprises two isolated buildings, a rugby pitch, two parkings, gardens and a children´s area:



  • Rugby pitch:

      • Approved. Game dimension 112x67 m

      • Provided with state of the art artificial grass and 70 mm of fibre glass.

      • Stands



  • Service building: 268,38 m2

      • Changing rooms with capacity for four different teams at a time

      • Referee´s changing rooms

      • Social Center



  • Indoor swimming-pool building: 1.523, 24 m2

        • heated swimming-pool: Provided with six lanes of 25x12,5 m. Depth: 1,50-1,75

  • Parking: 77 parking lots + 5 parking lots for people with reduced mobility.



      • Parking opened to the neighbourhood: 38 parking lots + 2 for people with reduced mobility

      • Parking next to the rugby pitch: 39 parking lots + 3 parking lots for people with reduced mobility.

With the inauguration of the new swimming-pool in Son Caliu, the map of indoor swimming-pools in the municipality which are located in Peguera, Santa Ponça, Calvià vila, Bendinat and Son Ferrer, is completed.



It is to be reminded that, during the last World Travel Market, the Mayor, Carlos Delgado, signed three agreements with representatives of companies dedicated to the promotion and organization of rugby events, which will allow the celebration of two tournaments between the 23rd and 24th April and the 28th and 29th May 2011, at the rugby pitch, as well as the Majorca Beach Rugby tournament, which will take place the 30th April, and the 1st and 2nd May, next year. Mentioned tournaments will imply the arrival of more than 40 teams (more than 1.000 people between players and relatives) coming from the United Kingdom, Ireland, France and Spain.

  



This new complex is added to the sports area, built on the course of this legislature, next to the green area and counts with a sports track, with the possibility of practising basketball, indoor football, handball and volleyball; petanque tracks and a football pitch with changing rooms. Mentioned sports area has implied a total investment of one million euros.
