The new device, pioneer on the Balearic Islands, will provide faster services and has been subsidised by the consistory.
The Mayor of Calvià, Manuel Onieva, accompanied by the Deputy Mayor for Transportation, Manuel Grille, has visited this morning the facilities of Radio Taxi Calvià to present the new GPS system "Auriga", which has been incorporated into the taxis of the municipality a few weeks ago.
The Mayor celebrated the incorporation of this new system, which makes the service more effective towards citizens and tourists, he also expressed his satisfaction due to the fact that "it will gain in a quick taxi service to whom requests it. With this system we gain in modernity, effectiveness and, aboveall, in quality".
The municipal representatives have been able to first-hand know of the functioning of this system. Through a GPS via computer all the incoming calls to the Radio Taxi central station will be received and an operator will manage the user's call sending, with just a click, the service to the closest vehicle to the point of reference of said user.
The implementation of the GPS "Auriga" will improve the quality of the public service in tourist transportation, as the answer towards a call to obtain a service requested by a traveller will be reduced considerably, apart from eliminating all those inconveniences caused by the noise of the traditional radio station when taxis are parked in the different taxi stands awaiting to accomplish with a service, thus bothering the neighbours in their resting time.
The acquisition of the new GPS, which ascends to 136.000 euros, has been subsidised by the Town Hall through an agreement signed with Radio Taxi Calvià at the beginning of the year.
