The Mayor affirms that Calvià progresses towards the quality of the products from the hand of the public and private initiatives
The Mayor Alfonso Rodríguez Badal affirmed that Calvià progresses decisively towards the quality of the tourist destinations, and towards the quality of the products that offers to the tourists. This is what he stated at the presentation of “The New Magaluf”, at the ME London Hotel, organised by Melià and in which have participated the hotel companies and hotel chains involved in the Magaluf's change of model. The event has also counted on the presence of the Vice president and Regional Minister for Innovation, Research and Tourism, Biel Barceló, and the Regional Government's Director General for Tourism, Pilar Carbonell.
Alfonso Rodríguez Badal has highlighted that Calvià wants to become a leading tourist referent in the Mediterranean again, and “to this effect is adding private investment to the refurbishment of its hotels, public investment, changes of bylaws, and a determined bet on a project of quality for different tourism segments: young, family, adults....and for different products and experiences: sun and beach, sports, nature and health, gastronomic, congresses, senior tourism...”
The Mayor of Calvià has emphasised that all the tourist industry sectors, along with the municipal administration, “agreed unanimously new bylaws which have allowed the improvement of the citizen coexistence in the nightlife venues. This season -he added- we have bet on a greater police presence and on a dissuasive and informative task rather than disciplinary”. Rodríguez Badal has recalled, in this sense, that the self reaction of the tourists has helped to this change, which has meant an 18% less infraction of bylaws, and a 50% less detentions.
Alfonso Rodríguez Badal has added that “Calvià wants to be this destination to which tourists return, but also be a modern and an innovative destination. Through the project Calvià, intelligent municipality, we have yet the clear necessity of developing, for the 2016 season, technological innovation tools related to the tourist destination”.
The Calvian First Councillor has concluded that, to reach the objectives, “the public-private collaboration is absolutely necessary, and Melià, along with other hotel companies and hotel chains, has showed a determined bet on increasing the quality of its hotel infrastructure in Magaluf. The complementary offer as a whole must also do it and, together with the boost of the municipal and autonomous governments, we will all together achieve an intelligent tourist destination, environmentally sustainable, that respects the present and that bets on the future. A promising future of rewards for our tourist industry, rewards which are for our municipility as a whole. A leading Magaluf and Calvià, modern and committed to its future”.
On his behalf, the Deputy Mayor for Tourism, Antonio García Moles, pointed out 5 key objetives for Calvià and, specifically, for Magaluf: quality in its services and security; promotion in the main holiday segments; consolidate and transform the hotel infrastructure and the associated offer; continue giving active support to the businesses with the aim of producing a change in the model; and as a result of all these actions, be able to lenghthen the tourist season.
The event counted on the speech of the Vice president of Melià, Mark Hoddinott, who explained the transformation of the hotel establishments which are making their bet on Magaluf.
