THE MAYOR OF CALVIÀ PRESENTS THE GRANTS TO THE SPORTSPEOPLE OF THE BED PLAN
A total of 42 sportspeople of the municipality have received grants.
The Mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, presented on 22nd January at 10 a.m. in the town Hall's plenary room the amounts corresponding to the Scholarship Plan grants to Individual Sportspeople of 2015.
The Deputy Mayor for Sports, Eva Serra, welcomed the attendee and noted that these grants demonstrate that sport enjoys good health in Calvià. She congratulated the subsidised for their sporting success and encouraged the athletes to continue making efforts and working with enthusiasm.
After the welcome, the Deputy Mayor for Sports along with the Mayor proceeded to present the cheques individually to each athlete. The evaluation of the different requests has been made in accordance with the rules governing this call, in which is published the scoring criteria, so that all athletes who have applied for a grant have been eligible under the same conditions. Have been evaluated the participation in official championships regulated by the relevant sports federations, the participation in teams and the classification in official international, national and regional championships.
The Mayor closed the ceremony with a few words in which he indicated that these grants recognise the work of the youth of the municipality who opt for the practice of sports. He stressed values such as effort, dedication and companionship so characteristic of the sport practice, and noted that the administration recognises with these grants the municipal sport that takes far away the name of Calvià. He ended his speech by congratulating the athletes and families, and stated that the consistory will continue supporting the sport practice.
A total of 25,000 euros in grants corresponding to the year 2015 have been presented. A total of 57 sportspeople of the municipality have taken part of whom 42 have finally been granted. Of these 42 Calvian sportspeople, there are 33 minors and 9 adults with an outstanding curriculum which has been valued.
The subsidised sportspeople, represent a total of 17 different sports such as karate, swimming, canoeing, gymnastics, trail running, cycling, trampoline, athletics and table tennis amongst others. The event was also attended by the General Director for Sports and Sporting Events, Marcos Pecos; and the ICE's Manager, Toni Sitges.
