Two collaboration agreements for the protection of animals in urban environments have been signed with the entities SOS ANIMAL and Balearic Platform for the Defence of Animals (Baldea).
The Deputy Mayor for Environment, Antonio García Moles, has signed two collaboration agreements with representatives of the SOS ANIMAL Foundation and the Balearic Platform for the Defence of Animals (Baldea). On the part of SOS ANIMAL, the agreement has been formalised by its president, Ortrud Tannenbaum Geb Bruckner, while on the part of Baldea, the agreement has been signed by its president, Ana Aranda Lindsay.
The purpose of both agreements is to regulate the collaboration between the entities and the Town Hall for a better implementation and development of actions for the protection of animals that live in the human environment, and designed to achieve in the municipality of Calvià a better compliance of the purposes of the current legislation on the matter. The Mayor, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, and the Councillor for Commerce, Activities and Natural and Urban Environment, Paquita Muñoz, attended the signing event.
The Foundation SOS ANIMAL is a non profit organization that aims to carry out different activities for the protection, collection, care and attention of abandoned animals. The collaboration tasks with the Town Hall corresponding to the Foundation SOS ANIMAL will be those of adoption of stray and handed over animals, veterinary care service, coordination and follow up of feline colonies in the municipality and advice to the Town Hall on issues of animal protection.
The Town Hall will continue undertaking the rest of administrative, management and inspection tasks within the scope of its competencies, which include the collection of stray and abandoned animals as well as be provided of administrative staff for the care and maintenance of animals in the municipal facilities. The Town Hall's main aim is to minimize to the limit the sacrifice of animals, therefore the Foundation will collaborate with the council to locate a receiver in the event that it is not possible to locate the owner or this one does not pick him up in the legally established deadline.
Meanwhile, Baldea will collaborate with the animal protection association of the municipality and with volunteers to make a birth control of the feline colonies of the municipality. Baldea will castrate the captured or abandoned animals by doctors at the mobile unit and at collaborating clinics of the municipality. Baldea also commits to advise the Town Hall on matters of animal protection and feline colonies to achieve an ethical management of the pets of the municipality and avoid an uncontrolled procreation. The Town Hall will collaborate in the moving of cages and animals by its staff for a better compliance of the agreement.
In order to cover the costs incurred by the works carried out and the cooperation given, the Calvià Town Hall will collaborate with the Foundation SOS ANIMAL with annual financial contributions amounting to 16,000 € for the works of adoption and maintenance of animals in the facilities ceded to the Foundation, and € 12,000 for the medical and the veterinary service expenses, while with the entity Baldea the consistory will collaborate with the amount of € 8,000 per year for the castration works carried out to feral and abandoned cats and for the collaboration given.
The valid term of both agreements is 2 years, renewable for a maximum of a further two-year period, up to a maximum of 4 years. A cooperation agreement between the Calvià Town Hall and the Foundation SOS ANIMAL was signed in January 2012 also for a maximum period of 4 years. Also, the Town Hall and the Foundation signed another agreement for the cession of use of facilities signed in 2008 for a period of 30 years.
