INAUGURATED THE LIBRARY OF SANTA PONÇA-GALATZÓ

The Mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, has inaugurated today the new municipal facilities within the frame of the Galatzó festivities.

The Mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, has inaugurated today the new library of Galatzó- Santa Ponça after its change of location. The new facilities have been planned so that the library is part of the daily life of the residents by providing educational tools and personal creativity. The event was also attended by the Deputy Mayor for Social Cohesion and Equality and the Councillor for Galatzó, Nati Francés, the Councillor for Citizen Participation and Youth, Fernando Alcaraz, the Councillor of Esquerra Oberta, Alfonso Rodríguez Sánchez, the Councillor of the Popular Party, Rosa García and the insular Director of Culture, Rafel M. Creus.

The Mayor thanked the presence of the insular Director of Culture and noted that the relationship between the Town Hall and the Consell de Mallorca is intense in book loans and in the programming of activities, and that both institutions agree on the necessity of strengthening the cultural use of libraries. He stated that the facilities provide tools so that children can have fun while they have their first contacts with reading, and so that youths and adults can make use of these spaces. He finished noting that in the forthcoming year the investment in libraries by the municipality will increase.

For the inauguration of the library different activities were programmed for today: the little ones have been able to participate in balloon modelling, tattoo, bookmark and magic bracelet workshops, and for the adult audience an informative talk has been conducted by International Amnesty.

The library's space houses three rooms aimed at children and parents, youths and adults and, a more versatile fourth room dedicated to workshops, training, study and exhibitions. The facilities occupy a total space of 300 square metres.

Since its reopening on 31st May the library has been visited by 459 children, 76 youths and 784 adults. 59 children accompanied by their parents attended the Lego and robotics workshops which were organised in July.
