THE AJUNTAMENT RENEWS THE COLLABORATION WITH THE OCB TO CONTINUE WITH THE PROJECT "SES QUARTERADES QUE M'AGRADEN"
To recover a deteriorated area and make known the native vegetation and traditional fruit trees
The Mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, has signed a collaboration agreement with the Obra Cultural Balear de Calvià (OCB) to continue the development of the programme "Ses Quarterades que m'agraden". The project began after the signing of a similar agreement last year and now it is renewed. The objective is to recover a deteriorated area of the municipality and to make known the native vegetation and the traditional fruit trees. On behalf of the part of the Obra Cultural Balear the agreement has been signed by its president in Calvià, Francesc Sans Salom. The Obra Cultural Balear of Calvià presents the project to continue with the recovery and interpretation of the municipal urban area with the collaboration of the School and the Parent Assotiation (AMIPA) of Ses Quarterades.
In some parts of the municipality, natural ecosystems have been transformed by different causes (forest fires, opening of new streets, debris dumping, etc.), so it is becoming more common for new plant communities to replace the original ones due to the transformation. The project "Ses Quarterades que m'agraden" allows the recovery of a deteriorated municipal plot, while implying, sensitizing and involving citizens with the importance of a correct management of public spaces.
Within the framework of the project, the following tasks have been carried out so far:
Consolidation of existing native vegetation.
Removal of accumulated waste.
Plantation of some fruit and traditional trees with identification signs (for example: 'magraners', 'atzerolers', 'nesplers', 'gingolers', 'ullastres', 'garrovers' and 'lledoners').
Creation of several paths to walk near the trees.
The actions planned for the second year of the project are:
Keep the space clean of unwanted plants.
Repair, if necessary, any damage on the path.
Plant more fruit trees.
Look after the trees planted the first and second year.
Dig new holes for planting trees, and in case of lots of stones appearing, build a 'claper'.
Promotion and training on certain agricultural works.
Any other action related to the project.
