In this sense, in 2016 unemployment fell, in year-on-year terms, in key months, such as March, October and November, -10.31%, -15.60% and -11.90%, respectively.
The Deputy Mayor for Economy, Employment and Innovation, María Carmen Iglesias Manjón pointed out that "in general terms, the unemployment rate of the municipality evolves more favourably than the autonomous. It stands at around 10% on average in 2016, a figure well below 14% that was recorded in the whole of the Islands.
From the IFOC's internal observatory of employment the following aspects are verified:
The hiring distribution structure in the municipality follows the same guidelines year after year, being the service sector the one bringing together 75% of the occupation created (new contracts). However, there is a trend of recovery in the construction sector, which shows a positive interannual variation of 19%.
In terms of contracting, both the interannual variation (47% and 21% approx.) and the monthly one show a considerable increase in the number of contracts made to under 25 and over 45 year olds, groups that are in a situation of greater vulnerability and that have been objective of the main employment promotion policies that have been developed in the municipality.
Likewise, the active population in Calvià has increased in the last 8 years by approximately 4,000 people, which is 20% if we compare the active population of 2016 with regards to 2008.
