Jordi Gamito and Joana Gayà won the 5th edition of K42Mallorca


A spectacular sun day welcomed the more than 600 participants in K42 and K21 Mallorca. With a mild temperature and practically no wind, they were the perfect conditions to enjoy a great trail running test.


At 9 a.m. it was the appointed time for the K42Mallorca participants to leave the houses of the Public Estate of es Galatzó to unleash their passion, the trail running, facing the more than 42 km of the test. At 10 o'clock it was the turn of the K21 race, in this case the participants have 24 km until the finish line.

The K42 race began with an ascent of almost 12 km to the top of the magical mountain of es Galatzó, (1027 m). From there, they faced a technical descent in direction to sa Coma d'en Vidal to crown s'Esclop at Km 20 of the race. They passed by the Pas des Cossis to re-ascend from the Boal de ses Serveres to es Pas de Na Sabatera. From there, they headed towards the Comellar de Ses Sínies, heading towards Ses Planes, where they faced the last great gap, ses Planes (450 m), to leave the Finca de Galatzó and reach the finish line, located in the centre of the village of es Capdellà, specifically in plaça de sa Vinya.


As for the K21 race, participants also departed from the Estate of es Galatzó to head towards es Comellar de ses Sínies, and from there ascent to es Galatzó, without reaching the top, to continue through the Boal de ses Serveres, and sa Coma del Vidal, from there they started the return to leave the Estate of Galatzó and reach the finish line in es Capdellà.


Official results: In the men's K42 race, the triumph was for Jordi Gamito Baus (4:22:15), followed by Alejandro Fraguela Breijo (4:36:55), completes the podium Carlos Arturo Arias Velasco (Garden Hotels) (5:05 :46).

In the women's K42 race, the triumph was for Joana Gayà Bujosa (Somvital-Peus grossos) (6:13:47) followed by Tracy Michelle Dean (Mountain Fuel) (6:32:05) and Maite Rojo Garrido (6:54: 35)

In the men's K21 race the triumph was for Damià Ramis Pons (1:55:22) followed by Manuel Rullán Estarelles (2:01:46) and Donnino Anderhalden (2:02:19)

In the women's K21 race, the triumph was for Michelle Maier (2:02:19) followed by Franziska Etter (2:25:43) and Maria Ramis Esteva (2:30:35)


Test passed: participants assessed positively the organisation of the event and the change of course made conditioned by the water problems of various sections of the original course. The result, a very careful organisation, focused on the participants and on the mountain activities, K42Mallorca has been renowned as one of the most important events of the trail running in the Balearic Islands.

Special thanks. From the organisation it is to be highlighted the collaboration of more than 150 volunteers, civil protection, police, sponsors and other groups that made the event possible.


K42Mallorca is part of the prestigious organisation of K42series mountain races being one of the scoring trials for the Ultra Trail of Mont-Blanc.

 

The event is organised by Calvià Town Hall, the Hotel Association of Peguera and Cala Fornells and the company Projectes i Execucions Balears (organisation of sporting events), with the support of the Balearic Tourism Agency of the Government of the Balearic Islands.
