MAYOR OF CALVIÀ REQUESTS COMPLICITY TO THE SECTORS INVOLVED TO ERADICATE THE TOURISM OF DRUNKENNESS
Alfonso Rodríguez Badal reiterates that the problem will not only be solved by security, but the implication of all is necessary
The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, is holding a round of meetings today to seek the involvement of all sectors to improve coexistence in the areas where they are experiencing excessive conflict, this start of season.
This morning, he held a meeting with hotel directors of the areas of Torrenova and Ramon de Montacada, and this afternoon the meeting will be held with the nightlife entrepreneurs of Punta Ballena and Ramon de Montcada.
Rodríguez Badal has pointed out that the key message that is conveyed to them is that the Town Hall is making efforts in the security field, which have also been requested to the Government Delegation, but that "it can not be thought that the problem is going to be solved only from security". "Here we have a model that is moving towards quality," he added, "but there are certain resistances to move towards this direction, linked to an excess of free or very cheap and very aggressive alcohol supply."
"We can not have a tourist to whom we give free or very cheap alcohol for 17 hours in a row and then throw our hands up because they are very drunk in the streets. The path to quality implies a commitment on the part of everyone" he said.
The Mayor has explained that the hoteliers called today have been asked for complicity. That, for instance, along with tour operators inform arriving tourists that there are certain practices that can not be allowed and that are going to be sanctioned. In this regard, he has recalled that from the Town Hall an information brochure that is available to hotels was published last year, and this year an illustrative flyer on infringing behaviour and the sanction that it entails has been published. He has also alluded to the possibility given by the amendment of the Ordinance, made last year, so that the fine can be paid at the time the penalty is imposed.
He has also asked them to stay on the line they started of expelling conflicting tourists from hotels.
On the other hand, ha has asked them that when negotiating with tour operators to not surrender, for example, to an all-inclusive type that does not meet a standard quality. In this line the Town Hall has asked the Regional Government to regulate this modality of supply towards quality and that one of the criteria of regulation is alcohol.
In the afternoon, the Mayor has convened nightlife entrepreneurs of these two areas, to whom he has also claimed their collaboration to end with the tourism of excesses and drunkenness and continue to move towards the quality of the destination.
Alfonso Rodríguez Badal has conveyed them the message that there is a high alcohol supply that must be controlled, the alcohol in all inclusive hotel establishments, and the aggressive alcohol offers in the leisure establishments.
