6th Walk for Memory
The mass grave of the Calvià cemetery requested to be opened in 2018
It is 81 years of the murders of Joan Ferrà Ferrà and Cristòfol Barceló and of the walk two young people did from Galilea to Calvià to collect their bodies - the daughter of Cristòfol and the sister-in-law of Joan. For 6 years, the route they did is repeated to recover the memory of these four people.
The Town Hall of Calvià, together with Memoria de Mallorca and the Town Hall of Puigpunyent, has been collaborating since 2015 on this Walk, following the investiture agreements. Thus, it collaborates in the recovery of Historical Memory and, due to the request of the Regional Ministry of Culture, Participation and Sports of the Regional Government, 5,000 euros have been granted to collaborate in the expenses of the Calvià victims suspected to be in the Porreres pit.
This year, the Town Hall of Calvià, through the Councillor of Calvià, Andreu Serra, has also expressed his will that the Calvià mass grave is the next grave to be opened in Mallorca, and that it becomes a reality in 2018. This is what he asked the Government of the Balearic Islands.
The act of remembrance, presented by Manel Suárez, was attended by neighbours from Puigpunyent, Galilea and Calvià, and had speaches by the mayor of Puigpunyent, Biel Ferrà; Calvià councillor, Andreu Serra - on behalf of the Mayor -; the general director of Participation and Democratic Memory, Manel Santana, and Joan Ferrà, grandson of Joan Ferrà Ferrà.
