THE MAYOR OF CALVIÀ MEETS WITH THE PRIVATE SECTOR TO “COORDINATE ACTIONS TO IMPROVE THE IMAGE OF MAGALUF”

Juan Antonio Amengual highlights the need to "establish synergies between the public and private sectors to promote the seasonality of this area"

The mayor of Calvià, Juan Antonio Amengual, accompanied by members of his Government team, met this Wednesday with the Magaluf Business Board, which includes the Balearic Leisure and Entertainment Association (ABONE), CAEB Restoration, the Balearic Islands Trade Entrepreneurs Association (AFEDECO) and the Palmanova-Magaluf Hoteliers Association. The objective of the meeting has been, as the mayor of Calvià pointed out at the end of the meeting, "to establish synergies between the public and private sectors because together we have to achieve the common goal of coordinating actions aimed at improving the image of Magaluf and promote its deseasonalisation”.

On the municipal side, the meeting was attended by the mayor of Calvià, the first deputy mayor of Calvià Town Hall, Esperanza Catalá; Elisa Montserrat, deputy mayor for Tourism, Commerce, Beaches and Coastline, and the general director of Tourism, Carmen Peñas. On behalf of the private sector, the meeting was attended by the president of ABONE, Miguel Pérez-Marsá; the president of CAEB Restoration, Alfonso Robledo; the president of AFEDECO, Toni Gayá, and the manager, Toni Villela; Mauricio Carballeda, president of the Palmanova-Magaluf Hotel Association and the vice-president, Francisco Muñoz, as well as Miguel Planas Font, the Board's lawyer.

The private entities, integrated into the Confederation of Business Associations of the Balearic Islands (CAEB), have transferred to the municipal government team different proposals for improvement in matters of safety, cleanliness and mobility in the area.

On his behalf, the mayor of Calvià, Juan Antonio Amengual Guasp, explained his objective to reduce the problems derived from the so called tourism of excesses and to implement actions aimed at improving the image of Magaluf. For this, it is necessary to join forces between the public sector and the private initiative. In this sense, from the consistory it has been stressed the need to collaborate in the control of legality, in both, the illegal offer that may be taking place and the need to supervise the adequacy of the activities that are carried out with the corresponding municipal license.

Juan Antonio Amengual Guasp has added that from the Town Hall compliance with the law will be ensured, and he hopes that the private sector will also comply with the regulations regarding permitted hours and capacity. Finally, the mayor has highly valued the investments made by the private sector in recent years to improve the image of Magaluf as a tourist destination and has ensured that the public initiative will work along the same lines in order to establish synergies that improve the reputation and quality of this area of Calvià.
