The Council has paid already the helps for the purchase of the books of text of the new course to 4.895 students of Cavià from Infantile

For the 3rd year running, Calvia Town Halls Institute of Education & Libraries Dept. (IMEB) has been given the go ahead for the payment of grants for text books for school children who are residents of this municipality.

To date, the Town Hall has granted payment of 677.530€ to some 4.895 students.

This amount will increase after the 2nd phase which is planned for those people who did not meet the 1st deadline.

It has been distributed as follows:-

  1. 35€ for 1st year infants ; 65e for 2nd & 3rd year infants. (3 to 6 year olds)

  2. 110€ for 1st & 2nd year primary ; 130€ for 3rd & 4th year primary ; 150 for 5th & 6th year primary. (6 to 12 year olds)

  3. 200€ for 1st & 2nd year secondary ; 225€ for 3rd & 4th year secondary. (12 to 16 year olds)

As in previous years, this initiative is to benefit school children between the ages of 3 to 16 years. Parents could present their applications during the month of June, this year, however a 2nd phase has been introduced and the application period is open until 30th September, 2008.

In the past 2 to 3 years Calvia has lead this initiative before any other municipality of the Balearic Islands. Last year, the money was paid during the month of August, therefore parents had the money before actually having to buy the books.

As a further initiative, the Balearic Governments Ministry of Education has started a campaign to recycle text books. The intention is to reduce cost for certain age groups, and thus highlighting education as a key element of this society.
