The Town hall freezes the rates updating them to the Consumer Prices Index (IPC) and there implants the system of payment of taxes a la carte, that will be able to be realized in four times throughout 2009

Calvià supports the tax rate of the IBI.

Calvià Town Hall will maintain the rate of taxation for property rates (IBI) and freeze the rest of municipal taxes for 2009, applying only the cost of living rise (IPC) of 4,5%. Furthermore, the government team, lead by Carlos Delgado, has decided to introduce a flexible payment system, which means that any citizen who pays their property rates, road tax and rubbish collection payments via direct debit will be able to spread the amounts over 4 payments during the course of the year, should they wish to do so.

With the decision to freeze the rate of taxation for property rates (IBI), the government team at Calvià Town Hall continues with their policy of maintaining taxes, which began during their last term. It should be noted that since 2003 property rates (IBI) have been reduced by 20%.

Thus, the rate of taxation for next year is 0,659, lower than 2003, when it was 0,786. Therefore during 2009 nearly 65% of Calvià residents, or 2 out of 3 people, will pay the same amount or even less than what they paid in 2003.

On the other hand, the Calvià Town Hall will continue to subsidise the property rates (IBI) of 190 large families (familia numerosa – minimum 5 members) by between 90% and 25%.

With regards to road tax, the Town Hall will maintain the subsidy of 75% for electric vehicles and will approve a reduction of 50% for hybrid vehicles.

As well as road tax and rubbish collection, taxes on IAE, drains, sports installations and special services for entertainment etc. have also been frozen. Taxes on planning permission and nursery schools will be subject to an increase of less than 4,5%. 4,35% to be exact. Only the municipal cemetery taxes will be reviewed, according to the new benefits being offered, as of this year, as a result of the restructuring carried out.

100% refund of drainage charges in the winter months for hotels which open minimum 11 months of the year

Hotels will also benefit from these measures, as the Town Hall has approved a 100% refund of drainage charges in the winter months for those hotels which open minimum 11 months of the year. This decision ties in with the plan for boosting tourism and the Town Hall’s pledge to support the tourist industry, the municipality’s main source of income, in every possible way.

Therefore in January, 2009, the hotels which are opening for the stipulated period required to be eligible for the refund should advise the Town Hall so the necessary checks can be made. The hotels which have been open at least 11 months during 2009 will receive a refund in the form of an invoice for “zero euros” in January-February and November-December of 2010.

Calvià, therefore, will be the first administration to adopt a measure of this type, in the hope of creating the necessary structure which will encourage other administrations to follow suit.
