The Deputy Mayor of Culture and President of the Institute of Formation & Occupation of Calvià (IFOC), Constantina Hernández, presides, this afternoon, the prize-giving of the tenth edition of the “Innova” competition, which, this year, not only rewards the enterprising spirit of the Calvià population, but also appreciates and recognises by way of a special award, the work carried out by those private companies from previous editions which has contributed to the creation of stable employment in the municipality.


Furthermore, Calvià Town Hall wished to award prizes for the projects and ideas which strive for innovation, deseasonalisation and social responsibility in business, as fundamental elements for the future of Calvià. 28 projects entered the competition, which had a total of 20.000 euros in prize money. 14 in each of the two established categories.


The winning projects and ideas are :


  • Category A: Business projects with a commitment to the setting up of a company and companies set up since 1st November 2006:


    • Innova Prize: 6.000 € awarded to Project Bufetes (decoration with balloons), presented by Aina Seguí Rigo. The work of Bufetes consists of the decoration of parties and events using balloons.


    • Deseasonalisation Prize: 5.000 € awarded to Project Maximice Business & Leisure Events, presented by Juan Miguel Caldentey Garriño and Markus Muller. This newly established business specialises in the organisation of events and conventions all year round.


    • Socially Responsible Prize: 5.000 € for the project Muta, alquimia material, presented by Franco Andrés Sorbera. Consists of the creation of a studio-factory-workshop for designing and making furnishings from basic, recycled material.


  • Category B: Business ideas. This category is not committed to setting up a company, but was created mainly to stimulate ideas for establishing new businesses.




    • Innovative Idea Prize: 1.500 euros for the idea - La cesta de la compra (the shopping basket) of Carmelo Calvo Ariño. This consists of the creation of a huge data base enabling the consultation and comparison of the prices of articles in different commercial establishments of Calvià.


    • Deseasonilisation Idea Prize: 1.250 euros for the idea Paseo Tesoros Humanos de Calvià (Calvià’s Avenue of Human Treasures), presented by Mario Dehter, Raquel Herrero Alverola and Asunción María Trigo Cervera. This consists of choosing a public area in recognition of contemporary universal personalities. This area could house the prints of the prizewinning personalities and would become an annual event, internationally renowned.


    • Socially Responsible Idea Prize: 1.250 euros for the idea Supermercado Verde (green supermarket), presented by Ronny Fabián Vega Fagúndez. This consists of the creation of an ecological, recyclable and sustainable supermarket, not only with regard to the products on sale, but also the supermarket, itself.


Finally, in the category of Historic Innova, created for the first time, this year, to pay homage to the companies who have helped create stable employment in the municipality. The special award goes to Squarcia, Tartas de Autor (personalised cakes); a company set up in June, 2004, which has created stable employment in the municipality, and is becoming widely known for its handmade cakes. The prize consists of an advertising package in which Squarcia will feature, free of charge, on Radio Calvià, the magazine “Calvià al día” and on the websites of both "IFOC" and the Town Hall.
