Calvià strengthens compliance with mandatory identification and neutering of domestic cats.

  • The Town Hall reminds residents of the mandatory microchip and neutering requirements and promotes support to facilitate compliance

Calvià Town Hall reminds residents that, in accordance with Law7/2023, of 28th March, on the protection of animal rights and welfare, all domestic cats must be microchipped and neutered.

These measures not only allow compliance with current regulations, but also improve animal welfare and help control the feline population in the municipality. The consistory emphasises that complying with these obligations is essential to promoting responsible pet ownership in Calvià.

Amongst the main benefits of identifying and neutering domestic cats are the following:

• Location in case of loss: facilitates the return of the animal to its home if it gets lost by associating a contact number on the microchip.

• Population control and fewer abandonments: prevents unwanted litters and reduces animal abandonment.

• Responsible cohabitation: contributes to animal welfare and better coexistence in the urban environment.

To encourage compliance with regulations, Calvià Town Hall has established a grant line with a budget of 9.000€, distributed as follows:

• Microchip implantation: up to 30€

• Sterilisation of female cats: up to 80€

• Sterilisation of male cats: up to 40€

To be eligible for this grant, the animal must be properly identified and sterilised; otherwise, both procedures must be performed. Grants will be awarded by order of application until the available budget is exhausted. Applications can be submitted, until 31st October, online or through the Town Hall's Registry.
