Summer classes subsidised by the Town Hall

2,200 children from Calvià benefit from the Summer Classes subsidised by the Town Hall

The programme is committed to work-life balance and has provided support to 54 children with special needs

Between June and September, a total of 2,200 students from Calvià have attended one of the summer classes. The Calvià Town Hall, through the Municipal Institute of Education and Libraries (IMEB), subsidises the participation of residents in the Summer Classes programme carried out in the different public schools of the municipality, through the Associations of mothers and fathers of the educational centres.

These activities have been carried out from 24th June to 10th September 2024, that is, the non-school period of June, July, August and the non-school period of September, which represents, in addition to the entertainment of the minors, a step forward in the policies of work-family conciliation. The 2024 Summer Classes programme has been carried out in the following centers: Ceip Galatzó, Ceip Ses Quarterades, Ceip Jaume I, Ceip Son Caliu, Ceip Bendinat, Ceip Ses Rotes Velles, Ceip Puig de Sa Ginesta, Ceip Xaloc and Ceip Ca's Saboners. The 2024 Summer Classes course has closed this Friday at Granja Nou Burotell.

The recipients are boys and girls from 3 to 14 years old, preferably residents of Calvià and minors hosted by families residing in Calvià within the framework of an international foster care programme. The summer classroom hours are, in general, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. In addition, additional services are offered, such as a playroom and dining room, and the hours can be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The purpose of the summer classrooms is to reconcile work and family life, as well as to promote other objectives such as: promoting education in values, equality, social cohesion, tolerance, solidarity, respect for diversity, healthy lifestyle habits, promoting actions of environmental responsibility and working on aspects related to emotional education and the development of emotional skills.

Special mention should be made of the Programme for Attention to Students with Disabilities within the framework of the Summer Classes. Some 54 students with special difficulties have participated in the classrooms with the support of individual or shared monitors, depending on the degree of need of each student. The IMEB subsidises the hiring of support monitors necessary to cover the educational needs of students with disabilities. Thus, throughout the months of June, July, August and September, a total of 24 full-time monitors and 13 part-time monitors have been hired. To this end, the expenditure on monitoring for students with educational needs has been increased and the salary conditions of the professionals in this programme have been improved to ensure a top-quality service.
