The CRECs celebrate their 15th anniversary

Friday 9th November 2018

The CRECs, pioneers in Spain, have been consolidated over these years as a network to promote school success and prevent the educational system abandonment

The Educational Reinforcement Centres of Calvià (CREC) have celebrated their 15th anniversary in an event, which has been developed at the CREC in Son Ferrer, in which a video tribute has been projected of the trajectory of these Centres that were pioneers and unique throughout the State. The mayor Alfonso Rodríguez Badal stressed, precisely, that the CRECs, that began in Calvià, are an educational reference in the country, it is the first non-formal education project that was conceived to support the student body in their daily life, helping them to organise their time, to dispel doubts, etc.

The first Centre, the one in Son Ferrer, was inaugurated on 8th April 2002, within the framework of the municipal strategic project Impuls Ciutadà 21, as one of the activities included in the so-called Pacte Social per a l'Educació a Calvià. It was inaugurated under the name of Educational and Vocational Guidance Centre (COEV), at the old Culture Centre of Son Ferrer.

The CREC in Santa Ponça was inaugurated in February 2003, in a place that the Town Hall had enabled at the time and, in March the same year, the Bendinat Centre opened at the IES Bendinat facilities. In the 2003-2004 academic year, the name of Educational and Vocational Guidance Centres was changed to Educational Reinforcement Centres of Calvià.

Throughout all these years, the CRECs have consolidated as a network of municipal educational facilities that aim to contribute to the success of ESO (Obligatory Secondary Education) students and to prevent them from leaving the educational system. As of the 2015-2016 academic year there was a significant increase in the hiring of teachers and support, which has allowed 78.48% of students to promote their course in June.

The celebration ceremony was attended by members of the Municipal Corporation, CREC workers and people who have been linked to the centres throughout these years, as well as the Regional Government's general director of Innovation and Education Community, Jaume Ribas.
