This afternoon has been presented in Galatzó, Calvià, the number 10 of the monographic magazine Entorn de Calvià entitled Migracions (Migrations) and published by the Town Hall. The publication has amongst its contents original articles prepared by professionals that review aspects such as the history of migrations from the end of 19th century to the middle of 20th century, the attention of social services, the associationism of the various communities or the challenge of interculturality in educational centres. In addition, it offers interviews with migrants: a hotel waitress originally from Granada, a caregiver for the elderly from Ecuador, an Anglican priest, or a Calvià artist who lived in Japan and who has recently returned.

Other topics are also dealt with in depth, such as Spanish mainland immigration that came with the tourist boom, the territorial distribution of residents according to their origin, or international conflicts. The historical context, together with the exposition of recent events - with special emphasis on the effect of the 2008 crisis - offer a vision of a municipality in which migration is one of the most identifying phenomena. In this issue of the Revista Entorn de Calvià, special attention has been paid to the collection of numerous testimonies that explain difficult situations and the courage necessary to face the fact of migration.

During the 'Entorn de Calvià' magazine presentation ceremony, the mayor of the municipality, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, defined migration as a natural fact, stating that variety, heterogeneity "is a wealth and can never be an obstacle or a weakness and that Calvià knows very well". Rodríguez Badal pointed out the opportunity of this Entorn Magazine issue stating that "when some criminalise migratory movements, they should remind our parents or our own generations that they went to seek a life opportunity in other lands."

The former interpreter of the European Union, Dick Fleming, has written an essay in this issue and has also participated in the presentation ceremony with an analysis of the changes from emigration to immigration in Calvià from a global perspective.

The 'Entorn de Calvià' magazine recovered in 2013 and at this stage it was decided to focus each issue on a specific topic. Most of the content is written by women civil servants of the Town Hall, but it also usually involves the participation of UIB professors, journalists and experts in the field who provide unpublished material and data of interest to better understand the municipality of Calvià today and its future prospects. Topics such as the environment, art, the architecture of the territory, gastronomy, cinema, tourism, women, the sea and sports have been dealt with in previous editions.
