VISITS TO THE CALVIÀ MARINE RESERVES WITH THE TRADITIONAL BOAT BALEAR END WITH A GREAT ATTENDANCE SUCCESS
For the second consecutive year, the trip has been carried out to show the Calvià coast on board the BIC declared boat
The Latin sailing vessel Balear ends today its trips to the Malgrats and Toro islands marine reserves, which it has been taking place since 22nd June and for the second consecutive year.
The Councillor for Environment, Rafel Sedano, has made a very positive assessment of these visits, which have fulfilled three objectives: to make known the Calvià coast and its biodiversity, to publicise the two Marine Reserves with the desire - he said - to have them extended, and go on this route with a recovered traditional boat, declared BIC and owned by the Consell de Mallorca.
The vice president and island councillor for Sustainability and Environment, Aurora Ribot, has highlighted the value of this barca de bou that is made available to schools, during the school year, and to the general public, during the summer months so that people can disscover the maritime heritage of the island.
The route has been carried out this year from the Santa Ponça Nautical Club.
Today's visit was also attended by the Deputy Mayor, Marga Plomer, and the manager of the Santa Ponça CN, Javier Arrizabalaga, as well as the technical team of the municipal Department for the Environment, which has been in charge of explaining the particularities and natural values and fisheries of marine reserves.
