Thursday 7th April 2022

CALVIÀ TOWN HALL INCORPORATES A 7.292.000 EURO SURPLUS INTO PROPERTY PURCHASES, SUBSIDIES AND INVESTMENTS

Calvià Town Hall incorporates a 7.292.000 euro surplus into the municipal accounts, which will go for approval in an extraordinary plenary session to be held on 20th April. The amount approved in March plenary session has to be added to the previous amount in order to complete the housing rental aid, which will reach a total allocation of 960.000 euros for this aid. Thus, this first half of the year, the 7.922.000 euro surplus will have been incorporated, which represents about 8% of the 2022 Calvià Town Hall budgets, which amounted to 102.303.341 euros.

The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, has recalled that Calvià's economy has had to be managed in a very complicated time forcing to attend what was urgent, and now projects stopped by the pandemic can be recovered. He has pointed out that with this surplus incorporation, citizens are returned their effort with services, focused on four large blocks: purchase of assets for services, lines of direct aid to families and productive sectors, investments, and the incorporation of a line item to face to the costs of electricity in public lighting and municipal centres.

The mayor has appeared together with the deputy mayor, Nati Francés, and the councillor Rafel Sedano, who has highlighted that with the surplus incorporation, a response is given for ending the crisis from the social side, demonstrating that there is a way to invest in the citizenship. Thus, he stated, improvement measures have been incorporated in many fields and he wanted to highlight that the emotional one has many of the measures that have been presented today.

The surplus includes a 2.150.000 euros line item for the purchase of assets. 1.500.000 euros will go to the acquisition of a land plot in Santa Ponça to locate the second Day Centre of the municipality, which will be added to the one that is currently being built in Palmanova. 500.000 euros will be for the purchase of a historic building in Es Capdellà 'Ca ses Monges' (from 1856), which will be used for different social uses. Finally, 150.000 euros are contemplated for the purchase of a premises in Son Ferrer, adjacent to the municipal Social Services premises in the area, for its expansion.

In Palmanova, the demolition of the old Civil Protection building (located at 8 Miquel dels Sants Oliver St.) is also designed to start the construction of a Cultural Centre in Palmanova.

Another novelty that is contemplated with the surplus incorporation is the call, for the first time, for aid for buildings accessibility, to complete the income that the neighbourhood communities contribute for the installation of elevators. For this call, 1.000.000 euros are included.

For the improvement of sports facilities, 730.000 euros will be allocated for the change of the rugby field grass and the renovation of both, machinery and floor of the municipal gymnasiums of the Son Ferrer and Galatzó pavilions, and the Calvià sports centre. In addition, roofs will be installed on the skating rink to prevent it from getting wet when there is rain and wind.

270.000 euros will be invested in the Galatzó Estate for the purchase of a truck, to complete the rehabilitation of both, safareig and dry stone, and for the recovery of the Casas de Galatzó porch.

400.000 euros will be allocated for the improvement of municipal nurseries and pre-education and primary education schools, a figure that is added to the investments already made by the IMEB, the Municipal Institute of Education and Libraries, with its own resources.

The surplus incorporation also contemplates a 100.000 euros line item for the Participatory Budgets, once the new platform is launched.

For the productive sectors, 235.000 euros are incorporated, on the one hand, earmarked for the Commercial Vouchers campaign and aid for the rehabilitation of businesses (in the latter case, they are incorporated to respond to all the requests submitted, meeting the requirements, exceeding the initial amount budgeted). 150.000 euros will go to promote tourism, focused on tourism products for events, and 50.000 euros in aid for Radio Taxi Calvià.
