AROUND 350 KG OF WASTE COLLECTED DURING THE CLEANING DAY IN THE MARINA DE MAGALUF CRITICAL BIOLOGICAL AREA
The cleaning action has been carried out with Red Cross and Estel de Llevant volunteers in collaboration with Calvià Town Hall and the regional ministry of Environment and Territory

Red Cross volunteers and two cleaning brigades from Estel de Levante, have carried out a cleaning action in the Critical Biological Area (ABC) of the Marina de Magaluf this morning, in collaboration with Calvià Town Hall's Environment and Ecological Transition service and the regional ministry of Environment and Territory.
Pending the final weighing, around 350 kg of waste have been collected.
Both, the regional minister for Environment and Territory, Miquel Mir; and the councillor for Environment and Ecological Transition, Rafel Sedano, thanked the Red Cross volunteers and the Estel de Llevant brigades, and all the participating technical personnel, for their work that has enabled to fill 4 packaging containers, 2 glass containers and 2 large rejection containers. The meeting was also attended by the Magaluf councillor, Marc López; the general director of Waste and Environmental Education, Sebastià Sansó, and the Red Cross Environment manager, Marc Ayats.
This action is part of the European campaign 'Let's Clean Up Europe 2022', and aims to clean this area of special biological interest in the municipality of Calvià and raise awareness among the population about the waste problem, especially in the pre-coastal area, as well as give visibility to the endemic species present in the ABC of Magaluf and the efforts made for their conservation.
Staff from Calvià 2000 have also participated in the action, by providing and removing the containers, and weighing the waste. The department of Environmental Education, Environmental Quality and Waste has provided material and a cleaning brigade, charged to the Sustainable Tourism Tax.
Prior to the cleaning, Species Protection technical personnel gave an explanation about the Critical Biological Area of the Marina and the endemic species that are present.
