VISIT TO THE FIRST DAY CENTRE BUILT IN CALVIÀ
The building located in Palmanova has been financed 50% by the Regional Ministry of Social Affairs, 25% by the Consell de Mallorca through the IMAS and 25% by Calvià Town Hall
Calvià Town Hall has already started the process for the construction of a second Day Centre on a plot of land acquired in Santa Ponça
The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal; the councillor for Social Affairs and Sports, Fina Santiago, and the island councillor for Social Rights and President of the Mallorcan Institute of Social Affairs (IMAS), Sofia Alonso, have visited this morning the works of the future Palmanova day centre that has already entered in its final stretch. It is the first day centre in the municipality, if the public places in the Calvià Senior Citizens's Home are not included.
The visit was also attended by the deputy mayor for Social Cohesion, Nati Francés; the councillor for Social Development, Childhood and the Elderly, M. Carmen Rojano, as well as other municipal officials.
The works have had a cost of 736.548€, of which 50% has been financed by the Regional Ministry of Social Affairs and Sports, 25% by Calvià Town Hall and the remaining 25% by the Mallorca Council. The works are already finished and now all that remains is to equip it and obtain its authorisation.
The Consell de Mallorca, through the IMAS, will be in charge of authorising it. On the other hand, Calvià Town Hall will be in charge of managing it and it is expected to have about 10 workers. Once it becomes operational, the Regional Ministry of Social Affairs will continue to be linked to the centre since it will be in charge of arranging the reserved places to attend to the dependent population.
In total, the new facility located in ses Planes, has a capacity for 30 places that will become part of the Public Dependency Care Network for which the Regional Ministry will allocate around 200.000 euros per year.
The execution of this facility is an example of institutional collaboration and the need to jointly face the population's aging, the commitment to local services and care for dependency.
This new centre is included in the new public facilities plan being developed by the Regional Ministry of Social Affairs and Sports with the aim of increasing the number of places in both day centres and residence centres for people in a situation of dependency in the Balearic Islands.
On the other hand, Calvià Town Hall has already begun the process for the construction of a second Day Centre in the municipality, which will be located on a plot of land that the Town Hall has acquired in Santa Ponça.
Palmanova Day Centre Project
The new building, of 366 m² on a single ground floor and 5 metres high, is arranged in three volumes of different heights and dimensions, organised around a patio, which are aligned according to the boundaries of the plot. Access is through a porch on the Calvià-Palmanova road, which gives access to a corridor around which the three modules are organised, which are distributed as follows:
- Services module, such as bathrooms, changing rooms and staff room, warehouse, kitchen and facilities room, which have access from the main corridor.
- Health module, with the physiotherapy room and the doctor's office or care room.
- Living room, with the multipurpose room and the rest room, two spaces in which users will spend most of their time. They are adjoining rooms, so they can be used together or independently. This space has an outdoor terrace covered with a mobile pergola to regulate the entry of sunlight and the thermal comfort of users.
