CALVIÀ INNOVATES WITH A STUDY TO DISCOVER THE STATE OF MENTAL HEALTH AND THE EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING OF ITS CITIZENS

This analysis allows us to lay the foundations for a series of actions aimed at improving emotional well-being in Calvià.

A detailed study on mental health and emotional well-being in Calvià has revealed the need to improve existing resources by health services in collaboration with social and educational services and the community in general. The research, carried out at the end of 2023, has shed light on important challenges faced by the Calvià society in this area. Among the most notable findings of the study are:

- More than 50% of the population does not know the mental health services available in Calvià.

- 75% of those surveyed consider that current resources are not sufficient to address mental health needs in the municipality.

- Problems such as anxiety and depression are on the rise, evidencing growing concern for the emotional well-being of citizens.

The main challenges identified include patient overload and lack of time in consultations, excessively long waiting lists due to lack of human resources and lack of specialists in mental health care, especially for the adolescent population. These data are a wake-up call to take concrete measures aimed at improving the mental health situation in Calvià. The response to this situation entails a responsibility, also as a community, to build a more resilient and supportive environment.

To resolve these challenges, Calvià Town Hall will request an increase in specialised health resources in the municipality and priority attention to mental health in Calvià. For the Calvià Town Hall, it is essential to strengthen the network of psychological and psychiatric care services, as well as implement awareness and education strategies on mental health in the municipality at the community level. Additionally, creating safe spaces where people can express their emotions and receive the necessary support, especially from trained professionals, is crucial.
