Coeducation courses in public centres

Tuesday, 24th October 2023

As from this course, Calvià Town Hall directly manages the co-education courses in public centres

The until now 'Affective-sexual Education Plan' is being redesigned by municipal expert technicians

From this year onwards, Calvià Town Hall assumes the management of complementary activities for minors in the second cycle of Early Childhood and Primary Education of the 11 CEIPs (Early Childhood and Primary Education Schools) of the municipality. Until last year, an external company offered the activities in 8 centres, while in the other 3, the Town Hall technicians assumed the task. The council's new plan, on the other hand, foresees the direct management of the 11 CEIPs in a joint initiative of the Family and Equality and Education areas. All of this points to an educational co-responsibility strategy, in which both teachers and families are involved and whose ultimate objective is to provide a coordinated response to the needs and problems detected from the domestic and educational environments.

The needs detected by the new Government team involve making a series of substantial modifications in the service's management. The first step is to group and homogenise the content offered in all centres, while introducing new training lines aimed at families and teachers. In this sense, during the previous legislature, Lot 2 of the tender called "Affective-sexual education workshops aimed at families in the first cycle of Early Childhood education and families in Early Childhood and Primary education" went unclaimed. From the Town Hall it has now been decided to respond to this lack, including such training in the direct management plan. For this reason, these training capsules will be launched aimed at involving families and converting schools into transversal training centres.

Finally, the pertinent actions that may arise from the observatory and diagnosis carried out during the last course, will be implemented.

In the words of Néstor García-Muñoz - manager of the IMEB, Municipal Institute of Education and Libraries - the training of these activities must contribute, as it has been doing, to the achievement of real equality between women and men, as well as the acquisition of these values from childhood in a playful way. «It is an objective to take into account in educational centres. It teaches us how to be responsible and promote good coexistence," he emphasises.
