Calvià is one of the municipalities that has requested this Tuesday at the World Travel Market in London to be considered as a tourist municipality. Mayor Juan Antonio Amengual, together with the first councillors who make up the Alliance of Sun and Beach Tourist Municipalities (AMT), convey this to the Secretary of State for Tourism, Rosana Morillo. The objective is that part of the taxes collected on the sale of alcoholic beverages or hydrocarbons stays in the municipalities to improve financing and be able to assume the cost of services generated by tourist activity. The reduction of VAT on municipal purchases is also requested.

The request comes after an exhaustive report commissioned from an external consulting firm in which the policy applied in other countries has been evaluated.

Amengual - also vice president of the AMT - explained that the declaration of tourist municipality would entail "financing that would serve as a reward for municipalities that suffer wear and tear due to tourist activity."

On the other hand, the mayor has announced that the AMT Meeting will be held in Calvià on 10th and 11th December. At the important event, the replacement at the head of the AMT will take place, which Amengual will now assume as president.
